A Contemporary Landscape Inspired by the Australian Countryside
In the rolling hills of Red Hill, Pardalotte is a large-scale garden designed to complement the natural beauty of the Mornington Peninsula while offering a striking, modern aesthetic. Colin crafted this landscape with a focus on drought-tolerant succulents, architectural plantings, and a bold use of texture and form.
The design draws inspiration from the rugged beauty of the Australian bush, balancing structured elements like corten steel planters and timber pathways with soft, flowing layers of blue chalksticks, golden barrel cacti, and towering aloes. These choices create a low-maintenance yet visually dynamic environment that thrives in Red Hill’s cool-climate conditions.
The interplay of color, scale, and materiality—combined with the borrowed scenery of the surrounding vineyards and forest—results in a timeless, sculptural landscape. The garden at Pardalote is a true reflection of Colin’s signature style, where fine art meets functional, resilient design.
