Project: The Block, Daylesford, Victoria

Colin Hyett Design’s work on The Block saw the transformation of Ben and Emma’s home into a landscape that felt deeply connected to the rolling hills of Daylesford.

Designed to soften the newly built Australian barn into its environment, the garden combined sculptural native planting, architectural forms, natural stone, and layered textures to create a space that felt both grounded and immersive. Drawing inspiration from the surrounding landscape, the design focused on creating habitat, atmosphere, and a genuine sense of belonging within the land.

Known for balancing bold visual impact with long-term softness and liveability, Colin approached the project as more than a garden… but as a living system designed to evolve beautifully over time. From handcrafted details and layered planting to immersive outdoor spaces and dramatic forms, the landscape became an extension of the architecture itself.

Praised for its artistic vision and strong connection to place, the project showcased CHD’s signature philosophy… creating gardens that do not simply sit within the landscape, but become part of it.
